Creativity……Imagination…..Inventiveness….Innovation….Creating something new…..Coming up with an idea……
Googling the meaning of Creativity: “is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity is characterised by the ability to perceive the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena, and to generate solutions” (this really describes exactly the way I’m thinking of creativity, so nicely put).
I come across children in my therapy sessions that will often say (and too quick to say): “I can’t; I don’t know or I don’t know how” (with a shrug of the shoulders). There’s various reasons for them giving-in so quickly:
- anxiety
- unfamiliarity
- low self-esteem
- negative experience that caused shame
- fear of failure
- developmentally challenging (physically or mentally)
What can we do as parents to minimise the resistance and difficulty our children have, approaching a challenge or a problem? What can we do to inspire imagination and creativity, helping them see things from a different perspective and expanding our children’s minds?
You will find that implementing these activities will improve our child’s self-esteem , it allows for opportunity to test unfamiliar situations and will expand their imagination and problem solving skills.
Try the activities together!
